This semester I joined my first tabletop RPG campaign. It is a Pokemon campaign using the Pokemon Tabletop United (PTU) system and GMed by fellow TAY author DragonStorm247. Today I shall continue to tell the tales of our exploits! Be sure to read the previous chapters here first!

Prepped for combat, the Helix flies out of the Halberd's hanger. Arlon maneuvers the team's new frigate away from the massive dreadnought, turning to face the gate. A swarm of Genesect drop out of warp space surrounding a Romanov carrier. The Helix's sensors detect that there are around two-hundred-twenty of the cybernetically enhanced insect Pokemon.

The hangers on the carrier open and many more Genesect swarm out and start flying at the Halberd. The dreadnought begins flying towards the them and opens fire. The Genesect, puny in size compared to the hulking Halberd, are easily able to outmaneuver it and dodge the majority of the incoming fire. Arlon flies the Helix towards the swarm and several Genesect break off to engage the frigate.

"Man the guns!" Arlon shouts into the ship's intercom. Dmitri runs to the plasma cannons while H mans the heavy plasma beam.

Dmitri takes a few shots at the Genesect but the Pokemon dodge out of the way. H tracks a group of the swarming Genesect with the beam and fires in a wide arc, destroying three of them. A couple of the Genesect return fire but Arlon quickly takes the ship into a dive and avoids most of the shots, only one of which manages to land a hit. The shields absorb the blast and the gunners continuing firing on the Genesect.

Dmitri misses once again but H fires the beam across a large chunk of the swarm, managing to hit twelve, killing about half of them. The Halberd is not nearly as lucky, only landing a few glancing blows that only suffice to wound a handful of the swarming Genesect. The enemy Pokemon fire another salvo of shots at the Helix but Arlon rolls the ship, dodging all of the incoming shots.

The Halberd continues to close in on the Romanov carrier, picking off a few Genesect along the way, but the dreadnought is taking on much more damage than it is dishing out. The ship is swarmed with Geenesect that are starting to tear through its hull.

A group of Genesect fly at the Helix and Dmitri fires at them with the plasma cannons. He only manages to nick one of them and they continue closing in. Arlon dodges past most of their incoming fire, but one manages to land a blow and break through the temporarily disrupted shields. The crew of the Helix hear a loud clank as it lands on the hull of the ship and starts trying to scrape through.

"It's trying to break through into the cargo bay!" Arlon yells into the intercom.

Shane, Morgan, and Dmitri head down to the cargo bay accompanied by Arlon's Quilava, Cinder, and H's Rhyhorn, Number One as the two of them cannot leave their positions. As they arrive in the cargo bay, the Genesect busts through the hull and magnetizes itself to the floor as the vacuum of space begins to suck the air out of the cargo bay. The blast doors seal shut in response.

Shane sends out his Rotom, B.O.L.T., and Morgan and Dmitri send out Solrock and Slugma respectively. Up close, the Genesect looks like a merciless killing machine. Its eyes flash as it scans the room and assesses the situation. Dmitri throws a string shot canister at the hole in the ship and a giant wad of string shot seals it up enough to prevent anything from flying out but the Helix continues to leak atmosphere.

The Genesect looks at Slugma and fires its cannons at the small lava slug. Slugma is surprisingly resistant, but it still takes some damage. Cinder spits a massive tide of flames at the Genesect, melting through its armor and inflicting tons of damage to the metallic creature. B.O.L.T. shoots it with a wave a thunder and paralyzes it. Solrock blasts the Genesect with a wave of psychic energy but misses. Slugma then fires a burst of flames. Number One launches a giant rock the Genesect dodge out of the way and the boulder crashes into some crates, completely destroying them.

The entire ship rocks as it is hit with a volley of fire from the swarming Genesect which downs the shields, allowing several shots to hit the hull. H fires the beam at another group of Genesect but this time he misses. Shane runs to a nearby computer and attempts to hack into the shields to try to charge them back up faster but he is unsuccessful.

Back in the cargo hold, Cinder and B.O.L.T. hit the Genesect with more fire and electricity and the Pokemon appears to be heavily damaged. It stands upright and its eyes flash. It seems to be sending out some kind of signal. It then locks on to Number One and hits it with a beam of ice. The Rhyhorn withstands the blow but it seems to have taken quite a bit of damage.

Solrock unleashes a vortex of fire around the Genesect but it doesn't seem to care. However it appears to be quite distressed when the flames persist. Slugma then fires another burst of flames and takes the cybernetic Pokemon down. Its eyes continue to flash. Shane analyses the flashing pattern and determines that it is some sort of signal but he can't seem to identify exactly what it means.

There are two more loud metal clanks on the hull as another pair of Genesect land on the ship and start clawing through the string shot covered hole. They burst through into the cargo hold and the team in the cargo bay are forced to retreat into the hallway. Morgan and Dmitri recall their slow Pokemon as they run. The team splits up and exits into the hallway through doorways on opposite ends of the cargo bay. Dmitri, Cinder, and Number One head to the starboard side while Shane, Morgan, and B.O.L.T. head to the port side.

Number Once, who is is pretty bad shape, retreats back to H on the upper deck of the ship. Dmitri sends out his Haunter, Wilhelm, and Morgan sends out her Espeon, Yvonne. The two Genesect split up and each pursue their retreating targets out different doors.

On the port side, the Genesect fires a signal beam at Yvonne, and knocks the Espeon out instantly. The Genesect on the starboard side fires its cannon at Wilhelm, a bright blast of energy hits the Haunter and deals some damage to it. Cinder uses flamethrower once again but it misses. Streaks of flame shoot down the hall and set the entire place on fire. The Gensect's eyes glow a menacing red through the flames. Wilhelm charges it with a shadowy punch but just bounces off it. The mechanical monster looks at Dmitri's Haunter menacingly.

Meanwhile, back on the port side, B.O.LT. paralyzes the Genesect with a wave of thunder, giving Morgan an opportunity to recall Yvonne and send out her Pikachu. Shane then vanishes as he prepares for a phantom force. Back upstairs, Number One makes it back to H and he switches out to Number Six, Helioptile.

On the starboard side, Dmitri confuses the other Genesect. However, it acts normally and targets Wilhelm. It's cannon glows red and fires a massive techno blast, taking the Haunter down. The explosion gives the hall the appearance of a fiery hell, the flames reflecting in the Genesect's fierce red eyes. Dmitri recalls his Haunter and sends his Slugma back out while Cinder shoots another shot of fire into the inferno surround the Genesect.

Back on the port side, Pikachu charges itself up with volts of electricity and tackles the other Genesect. The critical blow leaves the Genesect sparking and immobilized. B.O.L.T. then hits it with confuse ray, inflicting yet another status condition upon it. Shane then reappears behind the beast and jumps up on its back. He sees a blue drive on the Pokemon's back and thinks it looks important. He phases his hand in and rips the thing right out of the Genesect's back.

The Genesect's eyes start flashing rapidly. It seems like some sort of distress signal, like it has lost its connection with the command signal it was receiving. Dmitri runs across the hall and throws a great ball at it, hoping to catch it. The ball shakes once before the Genesect busts out.

Over on the Starboard side, the other, far less damaged, Genesect charges up its cannon and fires a massive blast of electricity at Cinder. In the narrow quarters the Quilava is unable to get out of the way of the blast and takes the hit dead on and goes down. Suddenly, Number Six runs into the room with a giant gust of silvery wind. It flies down the hallway and hits both Genesect and putting out the fires, leaving only smoke and embers.

Seizing the opportunity, Pikachu sprints around and charges up its speed. B.O.L.T. then hits the Genesect with a shock wave of electricity, dealing a bit of damage. The Genesect hen snaps out of confusion and fires a signal beam at Pikachu. The quick electric mouse easily dodges out of the way. The beam travels down the hall and then bounces off the wall right back into the Genesect, sending it back into confusion.

Meanwhile, Arlon has been flying the Helix around the battle, allowing H to pick off several more of the swarming Genesect. Arlon's skills as a pilot allows him to evade most of the incoming fire. Unfortunately, the Halberd isn't so lucky. The dreadnought is falling apart, Gensect tearing its hull apart. However, it has reached fire range of the carrier and has begun to light it up with its heavy cannons.

Back on the lower deck, Shane runs through the cargo bay to get behind the Genesect on the Starboard side. He pulls out his incendiary cannon and fires it at the Pokemon's back. The massive explosion sets the hall on fire once again, as well as the Genesect. It continues to press on, charging up its cannon again to fire at Slugma, taking the Pokemon down. It lets out a high pitched mechanical sound that echoes throughout the ship.

Pikachu then launches a ball of electricity at the other Genesect which now seems close to going down. The wounded cybernetic insect fires a beam of us at B.O.L.T., landing a direct hit. Number Six then runs over and hits the Genesect with a small blast of electricity, dealing minor damage. Shane then recalls his Rotom and sends out his Klefki.

Dmitri sends out his Gyarados, using its size to block the other's progress. However the Genesect does not seem to care, launching a blast of lightning out of its cannon and taking the Gyarados down with one shot. It then collapses, taken down by the fires burning it alive. The other one is soon to follow as Pikachu hits it with another volt tackle.

The team then rushes to action, sealing up the hole in the Helix to the best of their ability with string shot. They then get to work examining the Genesect. Shane enters the CPU of one and snoops around for any clues. He can kind of sense the command ship and traces the signal to find where it is going into the brain. He tampers with the orange blinky thingy but only seems to deactivate the signal to the carrier. The signal continues to broadcast along other channels. It seems to be connected to other things that he cannot identify.

"What happened?" Morgan asks when Shane returns to the physical realm.

"I think I cut off communication with the carrier but it's still transmitting elsewhere."

Deciding to play it safe, they decide to kill all three Genesect with Dmitri's laser sword despite his complaints. Dmitri seems to want to repair one and have his own Genesect.

"Isn't all life valuable?" He asks.

"Tell that to Caterpie!" H jabs. Shane tauntingly pulls out a burn heal. While this is going on, Morgan just grabs the laser sword and kills all the Genesect. They then bring the scrapped Pokemon to the lab and take some time to heal their Pokemon.

Now it's time to finish the fight! Arlon flies the Helix into the carrier's open hanger and Dmitri fires the plasma cannon at the soldiers in the hanger, killing them and blowing a hole in the wall. Disembarking from the ship, the enter the hole which conveniently leads to the main elevator shaft.

They reach the bridge uninterrupted and are greeted by the commanding officer, an admiral in formal naval uniform with a full but trimmed beard and a pipe in his mouth. He has a crazed, villainous look in his eyes. He is flanked by three Romanov marines.

The admiral yells at the party in angry space Russian. Dmitri, being a Romanov native understands the words he is yelling:

"How dare you defile the sanctity of my bridge! You are a blemish on this glorious day!"

"He's being a pissy bitch." Dmitri tells the others.

The admiral throws out a Clawitzer and the marines throw out a Beartic and a pair of Magnemites. The party send out Number One, Ironhide, Klefki, Gyarados, and Croconaw.

Gyarados leads off by breathing a stream of flames at the Beartic and Klefki follows up with a blast of fairy wind. Croconaw attempts to hit one of the Magnemite with waterfall but misses. The two Magnemite then fire blasts of supersonic sound at Croconaw and Gyarados respectively but only Croconaw is confused. The Clawitzer then targets Number One with a pulse of water, taking the Rhyhorn down instantly.

The Beartic charges into the middle of the attcking Pokemon and rumbles the ground, causing an earthquake to hit Croconaw and Ironhide. Both Pokemon survive and Ironhide charges at the Beartic. The Aron starts glowing as it bashes the ice bear with its iron head, taking it down fast. The glow intensifies as Ironhide evolves into a Lairon!

H's eyes start glowing yellow as he reaches his hand into the air. Thunder and lightning blast out from the consoles and strike his hand, a giant bolt appearing there. He lobs it at the Clawitzer and leaves it smoking and clinging to consciousness.

Shane then vanishes from the field once again. Dmitri sends a Magnemite into confuseion as H sends out Number Six.

"Sir. Something is wrong with console!" one of the deck officers calls out. The admiral makes an angry growling sound.

Number Six fires a small blast of electricity at the Clawitzer, finishing it off. Croconaw then freezes its fangs over and bites down on the other Magnemite, causing it to freeze solid. H then launches one of his magma bombs at the other one with his Poke Ball cannon and takes it down. The remaining marine recalls his frozen Pokemon.

"Nyet! Nyet! Nyet!" The admiral yells, "You think you've won don't you!?"

"Yes!" Morgan shouts back.

"The Genesect will swarm you all!" He yells as he slams his fist on the big red button with a look of insane satisfaction. Nothing happens. No Genesect are coming. He starts mashing the button, "What's going on!?"

"I don't know sir! Is not responding!"

The orange blinky thing slowly stops. The Genesect all fly away towards the gate and warp away.

"Where are you going!? Come back!"

The command crew stand around awkwardly, looking at their Admiral as he loses his mind. The party round them all up and tie them up. They bring them back to the Helix and hail the Halberd. Vice Admiral Graves answers the call.

"The Genesect appear to have retreated." she says, "I noticed your ship boarded the carrier."

"We captured the command crew." Arlon tells her.

"I'm impressed." she says, a look of genuine awe on her face, "Return to the Halberd, we will repair any damage and discuss rewards."

The party returns to the dreadnought where they are each awarded the Federation Medal of Civilian Valor, given only to those citizens of the Federation who go far above and beyond what is expected of them. They are also given a hefty sum of credits for their actions.

"Now that this is all over, what are you planning to do?" Graves asks them.

"This battle was just the beginning." says Arlon, "There are greater powers at work here and we're going to find them."

Shane briefly feels the mark on his arm glowing and looks down at it for a moment, he can tell Giratina has plans for him.

"There are hints of something larger here." Morgan agrees, "We need to be prepared."

"Interesting." says Graves.

The team returns to the Helix and takes off. They disembark from the Halberd and fly off into the distance.

"Guy's I think it's time we said our goodbyes." Arlon announces to his companions, "With my name cleared, I feel it is best that I return to the Red Suns." The others don't seem to broken up by this announcement.

"This is what you wanted isn't it?" Morgan asks, wondering why Arlon seems to be getting sentimental.

"We need to be prepared for whatever's coming next." he tells her, "I can use the Red Suns' resources to better further that goal. I'll send anything I find your way."

They make a brief stop at Silicron to give F.I.R.E. and Houndoom a proper burial on their home world and then fly to Banton to part ways with Arlon.

Epilogue

The meditation sphere approaches the silver-lined cruiser. Gilgamesh wonders if he has done the right thing.

He boards, walking through the familiar hallways to the small office, to find that same screen gazing back at him.

"I'd like to formally thank you for your aid in finding the Resurrector," says Mr. Silver. "It's been instrumental in the success of the project. In fact, I've already received reports of engagement in Sector 4."

"And just what exactly do you plan to do with them?"

"They are a test."

"For what?"

An eerie silence falls on the room before the mime responds.

"I called you here to fulfill my end of the bargain. I thought you might wish to know that the Gardener has been found."

A look of awe dawns on Gilgamesh's face. "So then … that means —?"

"Yes. They are coming."

Session Notes: This session was a great way to end things. We got our first real taste of space combat and got to fight the Genesect at long last! Lots of interesting stuff. The battle was based around the fact that in this universe there is no concept of a fighter, a small class of ships like X-Wings or TIE-Fighters. The Genesect have taken the role of fighters and challenged the way naval commanders think about warfare.

It was quite amusing to see Dmitri's player try to capture the Genesect and the lengths he went to prevent us from killing them.

We got a good taste for what's coming next semester with that epilogue that DragonStorm prepared for us. Gilgamesh was working with Mr. Silver? Mr. Silver was behind the Genesect? Who the hell is this guy anyway? And most importantly, who the hell are "they?"

I have to say, this was a lot of fun! This was my first TRPG experience and I had a blast trying something completely new! From creating a character to role playing with people I've never met before and making new friends, and of course sharing the tales of our exploits with you all.

And thus the campaign has ended! But fear not, for next semester Morgan, H, Dmitri, and H will return along with a brand new ally! I've decided to roll a new character for next semester since I wasn't entirely happy with Arlon. I loved his build and his Pokemon but I feel like I couldn't do much more with his character. I've put a lot of thought into my new character and am very much looking forward to next semester, and Spacemon, Vol. 2!
