I missed last week, so just like the last time I missed a week, I decided to feature a double album this week to make up for it. House of Gold & Bones is the two part double concept album from Iowa hard rockers Stone Sour. These albums are based on a short story written by frontman Corey Taylor, which he then adapted into a short comic book series that coincided with the albums’ release dates.
With House of Gold & Bones, Stone Sour show how to make a solid double album. The albums work together to tell a story, and there are plenty of recurring themes across both. I also love how certain melodies and lyrics from Part 1 appear again in slightly different forms in Part 2. It’s an amazing way to tell a story through music.
Both albums are packed full of amazing songs, but some of my favorites are “Gone Sovereign,” “Absolute Zero,” “A Rumor of Skin,” and “RU486” from Part 1, and “Sadist,” “Gravesend,” “’82,” “Do Me a Favor,” and “The Conflagration” from Part 2. Take a listen to both below and let me know what you think.
Album of the Week brings you an album to listen to every week. Maybe a new release, maybe an old favorite. My tastes range from alt-rock to technical death metal and everything in between, but if there’s something else you want to hear, be sure to leave your suggestions! Check out the album from last time!
