Album: The Serpent & the Sphere
Genre: Black Metal, Folk Metal, Progressive Metal
Release Date: May 14, 2014
I know I said I was going to start featuring reader suggestions, but I was listening to this album the other day and decided I was going to feature it this week. The Serpent & the Sphere is the fifth album from the Oregon-based progressive folk/black metal band Agalloch, which I featured as an honorable mention in my “Top 10 Albums of 2014” post.
This album has grown on me over time and I may have included it on the actual list if I was writing it now. The Serpent & the Sphere is filled with so many great atmospheric songs. My personal favorites are the 10 minute opener “The Birth and Death of the Pillars of Creation,” “The Astral Dialogue,” “Dark Matter Gods,” and “Plateau of the Ages,” but every song is super awesome.
Take a listen below and let me know what you think.
Album of the Week brings you an album to listen to every week. Maybe a new release, maybe an old favorite. My tastes range from alt-rock to technical death metal and everything in between, but if there’s something else you want to hear, be sure to leave your suggestions! Check out last week’s album!
