Artist: Avenged Sevenfold
Album: Hail to the King
Genre: Heavy Metal
Release Date: August 23, 2013
Since Avenged Sevenfold are about to release their own video game, Hail to the King: Deathbat, later this week I have chosen their Number 1 album from last year, Hail to the King, as this week's album.
While the album was the recipient of harsh criticism from longtime fans and haters alike for being a ripoff of several other artists, I personally think that this album is a very solid release from Avenged Sevenfold and would place it as their third best album yet behind Waking the Fallen and City of Evil respectively. Hail to the King feels very old school with influences such as 70s and 80s Black Sabbath, early Guns N' Roses, and 90s Metallica. Many argue that this album is ripping those bands off but I would say that Avenged Sevenfold took those influences and mixed in their signature sound to produce something new, original, and awesome.
Some of my personal favorite tracks are "Shepard of Fire," "Hail to the King," "Doing Time," "This Means War," and "Coming Home." Take a listen to the album below and let me know what you think!
Album of the Week brings you an album to listen to every week. Maybe a new release, maybe an old favorite. From alt-rock to technical death metal and everything in between, there will be something for everyone! Check out last week's album!
